What is Barre?
Barre is a system of exercise marked by its use of the ballet barre to support individuals during practice. Most barre workouts combine elements of dance, Pilates and yoga; however, each method maintains slight structural differences from the others.
In practicing barre exercises, individuals hope to achieve lean, dancer-like physiques. Classes often require balance and stamina, as students are encouraged to maintain their poses for extended periods of time. The low-impact nature of the exercise also makes it a highly accessible workout regime, practiced by people of all ages, body types and fitness levels. Some methods even incorporate props, such as support cushions or straps, to accommodate those with injuries and health conditions.
