Top Facial Treatments to Offer During Summer

September 25, 2026 by Myriah Pitcher

Top Facial Treatments to Offer During Summer

If you’re new to the treatment room, you’ll quickly notice how much summer can change the way skin behaves. And if you’ve been doing this for a while, you’ve probably seen those seasonal changes plenty of times.

As an esthetician, here’s what that usually means for you: your summer facial menu will likely need a little adjustment.

No, you don’t have to overhaul your treatment menu every year, but you do need to figure out which services make sense for warmer weather and how to adjust your approach based on what you see during a consultation.

So, here are the top facial treatments to offer during summer. They can help you address common seasonal concerns without unnecessarily stressing your clients’ skin.

Why Summer Skin Needs a Different Approach

Summer can be a little unpredictable for the skin. You may see clients come in with more oil and congestion than usual.

At the same time, some clients may have skin that feels dry or tight despite looking shiny. And more time outdoors has a way of leaving some skin feeling more sensitive.

Then there’s sunscreen.

It’s important, of course, but add sweat and layers of products, and some clients may feel like their skin has a lot going on.

Here’s the thing, though. More oil doesn’t automatically mean stronger cleansing or more exfoliation. What works beautifully for one client may be too much for another, so pay attention to what you’re seeing and adjust from there.

Facial Treatments for Your Summer Menu

Hydrating Facials

Heat, sun exposure, chlorine, saltwater, and air conditioning can all leave skin dehydrated. And yes, oily skin can still be dehydrated, even though many clients don’t always realize that. That’s why hydrating facials deserve a spot near the top of your summer menu.

But you want to keep the treatment simple. Depending on the products and techniques you’re trained to use, you might use a hydrating mask or soothing ingredients to give the skin some extra moisture. Don’t throw more active ingredients at the skin if it already looks irritated or feels sensitive.

Deep-Cleansing and Clarifying Facials

Summer means more sweat, sunscreen, and oil, so some clients will come in feeling seriously congested.

A deep-cleansing facial can help, but don’t go overboard. Check the skin first and adjust your exfoliation or extractions accordingly.

More extractions don’t mean a better facial. It’s usually best to ease up if the skin in front of you looks irritated. You want your client to leave feeling clean and refreshed, not stripped.

Hydrodermabrasion Treatments

Hydrodermabrasion can be a nice summer option because it combines cleansing and exfoliation with hydration. It can leave the skin looking fresh without an especially aggressive treatment.

Know your equipment and protocol inside and out before you offer a treatment. Let your training guide your decisions. Don’t choose a treatment just because clients are asking for it. Assess the client’s skin first. What works well for congestion may not suit skin that’s already sensitive.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning can be a good summer option for clients who want smoother, brighter-looking skin. It removes surface buildup and vellus hair, which can also give makeup a smoother finish.

But here’s where you need to use your judgment. If the skin looks irritated or inflamed, don’t do the treatment just because it was booked. Check the skin first and make the call from there.

And don’t skip the aftercare conversation. Remind clients about sun protection and any other steps your protocol calls for.

Brightening and Antioxidant Facials

Summer is a good time to offer facials for dull-looking skin and uneven tone. If your training covers it, you might use vitamin C or other antioxidants from your product line.

Just keep your promises realistic. A facial isn’t going to erase pigmentation or undo sun exposure. Explain what the treatment can actually do, and make sun protection part of the conversation.

Keep in mind that the season alone doesn’t make a treatment appropriate. So, think twice about heavy exfoliation if your client spends a lot of time outdoors.

What About Chemical Peels?

You don’t necessarily have to take every exfoliating treatment off your summer menu. But this is one area where you’ll want to think things through.

Some superficial peels may work well in summer when you choose and perform them appropriately. Stronger resurfacing treatments call for more caution, especially if a client spends a lot of time in the sun or is more prone to post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Let your training, product instructions, scope of practice, and the client’s skin help you decide what makes sense.

And if you’re adding a new peel or another treatment to your menu, take a moment to review your professional insurance, too. Make sure the service is covered and check whether your insurer has any requirements you need to meet before offering it.

Choose the Treatment Based on the Skin

This may be the most important part of your summer treatment strategy. It’s tempting to create a “summer facial” and use the same protocol for everyone. Yes, it makes menu planning simple, but it doesn’t always make for good esthetics.

Instead, use your consultation to figure out what the skin actually needs that day. Here are some questions that can tell you a lot:

  • Is the client dealing with congestion?

  • Does the skin feel dry or tight?

  • Has there been more sun exposure lately?

  • Is there visible irritation?

  • What products are they using at home?

Choose a treatment based on the answers you get. You may even find that your best summer service isn’t one specific facial. It could be a customized facial with a few treatment options that you adjust according to the client’s skin.

Build a Summer Menu That Makes Sense for Your Practice

The top facial treatments to offer during summer aren’t necessarily the ones with the trendiest names. Look at the services you are trained to provide before you offer any treatment. Consider which ones address common summer concerns, then think about the products, equipment, and aftercare guidance you have to deliver them properly.

You don’t need a huge summer menu, either. A few well-chosen services can be more than enough. The goal is to have treatments you feel comfortable performing and can deliver consistently. You also want to be able to explain them clearly when a client asks what would work best for their skin.

Protect Your Esthetics Practice

Before you add a new summer service, take a minute to check your professional insurance. Make sure you understand what your policy covers and whether you need to meet any requirements before offering the treatment.

Also, don’t let summer trend cycles decide what’s going on your menu. The top facial treatments to offer during summer are the ones that fit your training and your clients’ actual needs.
