[fusion_text]Marine Agency Corporation is an independent insurance agency that specializes in liability coverage for personal care businesses. Founded in 1922, the company was originally based in New York City but has since moved to Maplewood, NJ. Marine Agency Corp initially offered insurance coverage solely to professionals working in marine-related industries, such as ocean cargo and shipping. After the Great Depression, however, it expanded to include beauty, hair, and spa professionals as well. Its existing president, Darryl C. Stevens, was inducted in 1975. Soon thereafter, the company began to provide insurance for skin care and electrology practitioners. Stevens’ expansion endeavors peaked in 1996, when Marine Agency became the only national insurance carrier for tattoo, micropigmentation, and body piercing businesses. Stevens currently manages the company’s New Jersey operations, which include insurance programs for “Main Street” businesses and contractors, as well as personal lines like homeowner’s, automobile, and umbrella insurance. Marine Agency’s vice president, R Charles Stevens II, manages the national programs, which include bodyBeautiful™, bodyMed™, and bodyMod™.
Marine Agency is underwritten by Zurich, an A.M. “A+” rated insurance carrier. The agency is licensed to insure in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia. Property coverage is also available in most of these states with the exception of Florida. Marine Agency’s bodyBeautiful™ program provides professional insurance coverage to electrology practitioners, massage and spa therapists, yoga and Pilates instructors, cosmetologists, and estheticians. It offers liability insurance on an occurrence form policy, and property coverage on a special form, or open perils, policy. The bodyBeautiful™ program includes general (trip & fall), professional (malpractice), and abusive acts (molestation & abuse) liability insurance. It may be customized to also include coverage for equipment breakdown, property of others, interior/exterior glass and signs, employee dishonesty, account receivables, employee benefits liability, and extra expenses. Insurance quotes may be obtained online through the company’s website. Additional benefits of the program include property coverage, inclusion of independent contractors, and off-site insurance coverage. Marine Agency also offers a free insurance guide, entitled “5 Easy Steps – Insuring you Day Spa, Tattoo Studio or Salon,” to both potential and existing policyholders.
