Lockton Affinity, a subsidiary of Lockton, Inc., is an independent insurance brokerage firm that concentrates on specialized protection plans for associations, franchises, nonprofits, and other affinity groups. The company is headquartered in Kansas City, MO, and has 64 additional locations in 17 countries. Lockton, Inc. was founded by Jack Lockton in 1966. Prior to establishing the firm, Lockton received a degree in Economics from the University of Missouri and worked as an underwriter for a surety bonding company. His brother, David Lockton, joined the company in 1976, and has since occupied numerous roles including President and CEO. In 2003, David became the company’s Chairman. Lockton acquired Alexander Forbes International Risk Services in 1996, thereby evolving into an international operation. It is currently the ninth largest insurance brokerage in the world.
Lockton provides claims management, claims cost containment, risk control, and risk management services. In addition to professional and general liability, its insurance programs include workers’ compensation, directors and officers liability, umbrella coverage, personal and commercial auto, homeowners insurance, health plans, and other specialty coverages.
Fitness Professional Insurance Program
Lockton offers three liability insurance plans to personal fitness trainers, including yoga and Pilates instructors: Student, Employed, and Self-Employed. Each customizable program provides claims-made coverage for professional fitness services. This means claims must be reported during the one-year policy term in order to be eligible for liability coverage. Individual insurance quotes may be obtained online or via telephone. In general, however, Lockton provides coverage for damages and claims expenses, loss of earnings due to trial attendance, medical expenses, fire and water damage legal liability, personal injury and advertising liability, investigation fees, and sexual molestation or abuse claims expenses. The program’s limits of liability vary depending on the size and span of the practice. Professional liability limits, for example, may range anywhere from $250,000 per claim and $500,000 annual aggregate to $2 million per claim and $4 million annual aggregate. An extended reporting period option is available for purchase within 60 days of the insurance policy’s expiration date. This allows non-renewals to receive tail coverage in case any claims are reported after the end of their policy term.
Members of certain professional associations, such as the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) and the American Pilates Instructors Organization (APIO), receive discounted rates on Lockton insurance. For example, PMA members receive an annual rate as low as $159. Individuals who are not part of such associations, however, are required to pay higher rates. Plus, Lockton charges an additional administration fee of $29. Insurance Plus offers its members one single rate as low as $179—no additional application, association or administration fees. PLUS, members receive occurrence-form coverage, the preferred choice in the marketplace. At Insurance Plus, you are guaranteed the most comprehensive coverage at the lowest cost in the industry.
