Esthetics is a discipline that is highly regarded in the state of Nebraska, just like in any other part of the world. As such, the state under the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Sciences regulates the education, licensing, and insurance requirements for estheticians. For you to practice as a professional in the industry, you will have to fulfill all the requirements as stated.
Education Guidelines
For you to become an esthetician in Nebraska, you have to attend a licensed school that usually has an approved curriculum for teaching and training. In this school, you are required to complete the minimum training duration which is currently set at 600 hours. This will give you the eligibility to sit for an exam administered by the Nebraska Board of Cosmetology. The board uses PSI as the vendor for testing and licensing exams.
Licensing Requirements
Upon passing the Nebraska Board of Cosmetology exams, which are administered in English, you will then receive your license. The Esthetician License will give you the legal capacity to work in any part of the state as a professional.
License renewal is normally done after every two years, at the end of September. This is a statutory guideline and must be adhered to by all professionals.
In the event you are coming from another state and you want to practice in Nebraska, you will be required to have 600 hours of training. Also, you will be required to have passed the state-board-issued exam in your respective home state. In case you do not have the 600 hours of training, work experience or additional hours of training within Nebraska can also qualify you to work in the state. Furthermore, this comes with a corresponding license transfer fee.
The Importance of Individual Esthetician Insurance Policy
By virtue of your work as an esthetician, you will require insurance coverage that will protect you from liabilities arising from patient handling and equipment use. A typical Nebraska Esthetician Insurance liability policy covers three main areas.
Malpractice Liability
In the course of working, you may accidentally hurt the patient because of a professional oversight. For instance, you may overheat blow wax and burn the patient, then this form of coverage will protect you.
General Liability
This section of the liability policy will protect you against claims arising from accidents, such as tripping and falling, which may happen within the session room or in your esthetician studio.
Stay Protected With An Occurrence-Form Policy
Occurrence Form (also known as Occurrence Based) is the industry-preferred policy type because you are covered for any incident that happened while your policy was in effect, even if your policy has expired.
Other providers sell Claims-made policies, where any claim filed after the policy expires will not be covered. No matter if you choose NACAM or not, definitely make sure your provider has "occurrence form" coverage.
