What are the Insurance Requirements for California Yoga Teachers?
The Golden State does not require yoga instructors to carry a California yoga insurance policy in order to practice in the state. Additionally, unless required by an establishment (gym, health club, studio), or a special licensing requirement (working with children, or a special form of yoga), instructors are not required to hold any certification in order to work as an instructor. Yoga liability insurance can help offset potential risks should someone decide to take legal action against you.
How Do I Become a Yoga Teacher in California?
To become a yoga teacher in California, start by finding a yoga teacher training program that matches your interests and schedule. For new teachers a 200HR YTT would be the best option. Depending on the form of yoga, and the studio or facility that you choose to work with, it might be best to look into any niche or advanced trainings as well to add to your resume. Many studios who are hiring will want their yoga instructors to have taken at least a 200HR YTT, so it is good practice to receive the formal training, especially if you plan on working for an employer, as opposed to opening your own studio.
Understanding Yoga Teacher Insurance In California
Like other states, in California, you are not required to hold a California yoga liability insurance policy in order to work as an instructor. Of course, if you own a private studio it does require business insurance, but individual liability insurance for yoga instructors is not required. On the flip side, larger facilities, and those that train younger students, are required to hold special certification, as well as minimum liability insurance policies, in order to shield them from lawsuits.
Due to the fact that you want to protect your career and yourself in the event of an injury, even though the state does not require it, you should get individual liability insurance. If you plan on working as a yoga instructor, it is smart practice to hold a policy, not only to protect yourself from professional & general liability incidents.
How Much do Yoga Teachers in California Make?
Yoga teachers in California make an average of $83,703 annually usually with an average hourly rate of $35-$45 according to Glassdoor.com. This can vary depending on factors like if you work only part-time, which studio you work for, add-ons, if you offer classes independently and so on.
