What are the Insurance Requirements for Florida Yoga Teachers?

For yoga practitioners in Louisiana, it is not currently a requirement to hold a Louisiana yoga insurance policy. Although you should consider investing in a policy, it is not a prerequisite to being able to work in a studio. In some cases, private studios or larger facilities may require instructors to carry their own policies, but no state or local regulations are in place that will require the instructor to carry a Louisiana yoga insurance policy beyond the coverage provided by the studio, when applicable.

How Do I Become a Yoga Teacher in Louisiana?

Like many other states, it is not currently a requirement to be licensed or certified to work as an instructor in the Louisiana either. But, for many health clubs and spas, and for instructors who train younger children, there are special licensing requirements in place, which require instructors to carry a policy in order to work in these facilities. Additionally, being certified in the craft is going to help bring more clientele to your studio, if you own a personal studio.

The current requirement to become licensed, at the basic level, is a 200-hour licensing course. It can be done on your own time schedule, based on the facility you choose to get licensed with. A special licensing option is also available, at a 500-hour requirement, to be able to work in certain facilities and work at an advanced level of course work. In order to receive this basic or special training licensing, the hours must be completed with a licensed facility, and one that provides the required training in each form of yoga, along with the special practice that you would like to train in.

Understanding Yoga Teacher Insurance In Louisiana

When deciding whether or not to purchase a Louisiana yoga insurance policy, the first factor to consider is whether or not it is required; in Louisiana it is not. Another factor is whether or not your current employer requires you to carry personal liability coverage; in many cases you are required to purchase it, especially with larger health clubs or spas. Even if it is not a requirement, it is smart practice to own a policy to protect yourself and your career. Not only will it shield you against any possible liability if a student is injured, it will also work as a shield and added protection in the event the facility you work for only has a certain amount of liability protection for each of the instructors on staff.

Stay Protected With An Occurrence-Form Policy

Occurrence Form (also known as Occurrence Based) is the industry-preferred policy type because you are covered for any incident that happened while your policy was in effect, even if your policy has expired.

Other providers sell Claims-made policies, where any claim filed after the policy expires will not be covered. No matter if you choose NACAM or not, definitely make sure your provider has "occurrence form" coverage.
