Why Should I Buy Esthetician Insurance?

No matter what state you reside in, an esthetician is a licensed professional who is tasked with helping their patients and clients maintain and improve healthy skin. Typically, an esthetician will be employed in a salon or spa; however, an esthetician may also work in a hospital or alongside a dermatologist in a medical office. Although the actual responsibility of an esthetician will vary depending on the type of environment they work in, typically this type of individual will give facials, scrubs, remove blackheads, and give overall advice on how to maintain healthy and great looking skin. Being an esthetician may seem to be risk free; however, whenever a person is responsible for the care and well-being of another individual, there is always the chance that something could go wrong.

Although the economy is quickly improving, there are still millions of Americans looking for a quick way to strike it rich. As a result, many people are turning to suing another person for even the most innocuous or ridiculous of reasons.

Because becoming an esthetician requires hard work, formal education, commitment, and money, it is important that you protect your investment. Consequently, although having Indiana esthetician insurance is not a requirement, it is highly recommended. Like other forms of malpractice coverage, esthetician insurance will cover you and your practice in the event that you are sued for providing inaccurate information or if something goes wrong during a procedure.

In addition to the personal benefits of being covered, having esthetician insurance may also benefit your career in the long run because potential patients will be more likely to go with a person that is fully covered than one who is not.

Esthetician Licensing Requirements in Indiana

Regardless of whether you want a career in cosmetology, nail technology, or esthetics in Indiana, you are required by the state to have obtained a professional license. Failure to do so could result in criminal charges and a loss of your livelihood. You are also required to attend and complete a licensed esthetics school and pass both a written and practical exam.

Once you have completed the 700 hours of classroom training and passed the exams, you will be given a license to be an esthetician in the state. Depending on how many years have passed since your license expired, you may have to retake the practical and written exam. Consult with the Indiana Board of Cosmetology for additional information.
