Although it is not a requirement to obtain a Washington yoga insurance policy before you start to work as an instructor, there are a number of reasons to purchase one as an instructor, not only to shield you from liability, but also to protect your license and profession from a costly lawsuit in the event that a student is injured during a class. And, with many employers, especially if you work for a larger gym or health spa, you will be required to purchase some form of insurance protection to ensure you are covered in the event of an injury.
Licensing
There are no special licensing requirements in Washington. As in other states, you can receive the basic 200-hour training, or you can receive the 500-hour advanced training. If you plan on teaching more than one form of yoga, own a studio, or work for a larger employer, then the 500-hour route might be the better choice for you to go with, if you are considering becoming licensed. Although licensing is not required to teach, most employers, especially gyms and health spas where classes are generally taught, will only hire instructors who are licensed, so you might as well consider taking the minimum required hours to get your licensing in instruction.
Insurance
Depending on whether or not you choose to purchase a Washington yoga insurance policy, there is more than one type of coverage and more than one level of coverage. Along with professional liability insurance, most yoga liability insurance companies will include general and product liability coverage in their programs. Getting a quality comprehensive policy not only shields your liability as an instructor with professional liability coverage, it is also going to protect you from injuries (slip and fall) that take place on the property.
It does not matter how long you have taught, Washington yoga insurance policies are well worth the price you are going to pay. Not only is it the only way to shield yourself from liability, it is the best way to protect your license and your position as a top instructor when you are trying to bring in new clients to your yoga facilities and classes.
