Although it is not a requirement in the state of Illinois to hold an Illinois yoga insurance policy, there are licensing requirements in place for those who do own or operate a studio. Only in recent years have states begun to require instructors to be licensed, but the requirement to have a license to operate a studio, and have clients come in for classes, has always been in place. The licensing requirements in Illinois are locally based. In larger cities, namely Chicago, the requirement to hold all required city licenses is a must. In addition to this, it is a requirement to have a special license if your yoga studio does special training or courses for children. If yoga is taught in a health club or spa, an additional license is required, by instructors as well as the gym, to be able to hold courses in the facility, and to train the members of the facility that choose to engage in the classes. In the city of Chicago (the largest in the state), it is a requirement to hold a minimum of 6 licenses just to operate your studio, and additional special licenses may be required.
Yoga instructors
Depending on the facility, it is up to the owner of the yoga studio as to whether or not instructors should be licensed and certified. It is not currently required at the city (local) level, but as with many other states, license requirements are sure to change in coming months and years, which will require all instructors to hold licenses. Of course if you teach children or special courses, certain facilities may require licenses for these forms of instruction.
Insurance
An Illinois yoga insurance policy is currently not required in the state, but certain municipalities may require it, so check with your local area. Even though it is not required, having at the minimum a liability policy in place is a simple way to shield you from liability. Not only that, insurance policies will help bring in new clients; when you are insured, more people are going to feel more comfortable taking a class with you, knowing you’ve taken all the right steps as an instructor. So, although it is not a requirement, it is the only sure way to protect you from liability issues, and it is an easy way to build trust in the local community and bring in new clients.
