South Carolina Esthetician Insurance

To obtain a license in esthetics in the state of South Carolina, individuals must undergo an accredited training program consisting of a minimum of 450 hours of coursework and hands-on training at a licensed school. The state of SC does not accept work experience in lieu of those training hours. After the training, candidates must pass a licensing exam, which is administered by the state’s Board of Cosmetology. South Carolina also offers licensure through reciprocity, and licensed estheticians in the states that have reciprocity with the state can apply to transfer their license to SC.

Currently, there is no strict legal requirement for estheticians in South Carolina to carry insurance. However, individual esthetician liability insurance is must-have coverage for any esthetician operating in SC. Even if you are employed and your employer has insurance, you should purchase your own individual liability insurance plan, as your employer’s policy many not be adequate or may not cover you in certain circumstances such as when you are working outside of his/her premises. Esthetician insurance will protect you any time a customer or another third party files a lawsuit claiming that your work caused them bodily injury, property damage or financial loss, whether it was due to negligence, oversight, professional error, or anything that would make a client feel disgruntled.
