Founded in 1987, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, also known by its acronym, ABMP, has been offering massage therapy memberships to massage therapists, massage students and massage schools. ABMP has one of the largest massage therapy membership organizations boasted by liability and business property insurance that meets the specific needs of massage therapists and bodyworkers. ABMP’s credo is “expect more”. They pride themselves in responsive and knowledgeable service from dedicated staff members who meet your customer service needs and expand the value of your membership.

Massage Liability Insurance

The main benefit of a membership with ABMP is the massage liability insurance that they provide. In addition to providing professional and general liability insurance for massage therapists, they also include product coverage. ABMP includes member benefits alongside their insurance; specifically, free continuing education, member discounts to massage supplies and other products, marketing resources, and a listing in their directory. They also provide a subscription to Massage & Bodywork magazine, a bi-monthly publication. To become a member of ABMP, you can choose either the Practitioner level or Certified level. With the Practitioner level, you must have completed at least 100 hours of training to qualify and with the Certified level, you must have completed at least 500 hours of training to qualify. The certified level is the highest level of membership that they offer. 

How ABMP Insurance Compares to NACAMS

ABMP offers their insurance and membership applications online and offers similar coverage as other insurance providers in the massage liability insurance space. Insurance and membership for ABMP costs $199 annually for the Professional/Practitioner membership level and $229 for the Certified membership level, which includes the membership fee. NACAMS Insurance Plus is as low as $179 per year in comparison, and does not charge a membership fee. NACAMS does not have an hour requirement and does not require a certification to become insured. Both companies provide professional and general liability insurance at $2 million per occurrence. ABMP provides a $6 million annual aggregate limit and NACAMS provides a $3 million annual aggregate limit, both of which are not shared limits. 

Both programs provide $100,000 in rental damage and  NACAMS Insurance Plus also provides $1,000 in stolen equipment coverage – an offering unique to us. Identity Protection coverage of $25,000 is among the other benefits of NACAMS and is included with the policy along with a free professional website and member only discounts to massage related products and services.
